She is young ambitious academic and a role model for millions of girls from Western Kenya. Dr Juliet Evusa, a professor of communications at Rogers State University, Oklahoma is like a drop of morning dew in world hungered by drought and intellectual poverty. The students she taught at Kapsengere High School in 1988 and 1989 as an untrained teacher need look no further for examples of what can be achieved in life. She is one of a handful of trailblazers from a society ritually characterised by chauvinist patriarchs who until recently did not value education of the girl child. I have no doubt Dr Evusa will deploy her huge intellectual capital as a tool to fight for the emancipation of women in Africa in general and specifically Western Kenya.
