Evans Wadogo from Malava, Kakamega has been nominated to represent Africa at the CNN Hero of the Year Awards in Hollywood, California. Out of 100 nominees, only ten are remaining and Wadongo is one of them, the only one from Africa. His invention, a solar lantern, was inspired by his upbringing in rural Malava, Kakamega County where he had to fight for the smoke-filled koroboi with his siblings to read and write. Despite that he has just graduated from JKUCAT with a degree in engineering but it seems this young man is headed for more than just a successful career - he is our hero and we salute him.
