Shelf life of Luhya like Simon Makonde

Remember the proverbial Simon Makonde? Born on a Monday, married on Wednesday, died of old age on Saturday and buried on Sunday. In economic terms, the Luhya are rather like that. Boards matatu or boda boda (owned not by a Luhya), buys groceries from kiosks or shops (owned by non Luhya), works in a factory or farms (owned not by a Luhya), worships in a church (owned not by a Luhya), and is buried in a coffin bought from not a Luhya. The sub tribes of Maragoli and Banyore occupy what is the world's most densely populated rural region. They are mainly subsistence farmers and fishermen - growing maize, beans, millet, sorghum and cassava while the people of Bunyala are great sculptors. More>>>
